Method of Valuation used
Appraisals may be for Fair Market Value (FMV) (what a willing art buyer would give a willing art seller); for insurance purposes (value based on cost to replace the artwork if it is lost, damaged, or stolen); or Income Tax Purposes (FMB for donations, including preparation of IRS documents.) Values are based on the range of recent retail and/or auction sales (if any) by the artist of art objects of similar medium, size, technique, and subject matter: comparative values are then adjusted in consideration of:
- Aesthetics: particular complexities (excellences as well as deficiencies, holistic as well as comparative) of the art work appraised, especially in its handling of subject, technique and style.
- Uniqueness of the work in general and within the artist’s canon, including the work’s rarity of subject or medium and th history of its exhibition and publication.
- Recent accomplishments of the Artis, if any likely to affect the values of his or her work.
All appraisals are USPAP Certified
