In 2006 this painting was installed in the Museum of Hungarian Military History with the other early works of the Millecentennial Suite.  The young freedom fighters at the center of the painting, with their children, represent the Hungarian people, with parliament and the church in the background and political and spiritual leaders Maleter and Mindszenty united behind the nation’s people. The wounded to the left, and the shattered Soviet emblem in the foreground, are unmistakable symbols of Hungary’s embrace of freedom regained, and its cost.
